ABEC stands for the Annular Bearing Engineers Committee. It is a standardized rating system used to measure the accuracy and tolerance levels of ball bearings.
The ABEC scale helps users understand how accurately a bearing is manufactured, especially in the following areas:
Dimensional tolerances
Roundness
Surface finish
Noise and vibration levels
ABEC ratings are usually odd-numbered:ABEC 1, 3, 5, 7e9– the higher the number, the tighter the tolerance and the higher the accuracy.

ABEC 1: Lowest precision, suitable for general use
ABEC 3: Common in low-cost applications
ABEC 5: High precision, used for higher quality machinery
