A spherical rod end bearing, also known as a HIM joint (US) or ROSE joint (UK), is a mechanical articulated joint. It allows for misalignment, vibration, and rotational motion in a variety of mechanical systems. When the bearing seat (or bearing body) has a threaded rod, it can be easily installed or adjusted by screwing it into or out of other components.

Threaded Spherical Bearing Key Features

Thread Type:
Available in both male and female threads, to suit both imperial (e.g. 1/4-28 UNF) and metric sizes (e.g. M10 x 1.5).
Materiales:
Inner ring: Typically made of hardened steel (e.g. 100Cr6) or stainless steel (e.g. 1.4034).
Outer ring: Made of materials such as free-cutting steel (e.g. 1.0718) or aluminum bronze (CuSn8).
Lining/Insert: Options include PTFE-based materials for maintenance-free operation.
Sealed Versions:
Available with replaceable sealing sleeves for sizes 8–30.
Threaded Bolts:
Some series can be bolted, converting them into angle joints.
Applications: Suitable for scenarios involving high alternating and shock loads in radial and axial directions, such as motorsports, industrial machinery and automation systems.

Technical Specifications

Juego radial:
Varies between 0.01 mm and 0.09 mm, depending on bearing size.
Capacidad de carga:
Radial Static Limit Load:
Up to 620 N/mm² for steel raceways.
Axial Static Limit Load:
Up to 551 N/mm² for steel raceways.
Angular Misalignment: Angular misalignment of up to 34° is supported, depending on the specific bearing design. McMaster-Carr
Rango de temperatura:
For nylon-based spherical bearings, the operating temperature range is -20°F to 175°F.

Why Are Threads Important?

1. Mounting and Adjustability
The thread type and size determine how and where the bearing can be mounted.
Fine Threads vs. Coarse Threads:
Fine threads provide more precise adjustments and are more resistant to loosening under vibration.
Coarse threads are faster to assemble/disassemble and are more resistant to dirt or damage.
2. Strength and Load Transfer
The diameter and length of the threaded portion affect the load that a bearing can carry through the connection point.
Threaded rods must be strong enough not to deform under axial, radial, or moment (bending) loads.
3. Alignment and Movement
Rod ends are commonly used in control arms, steering linkages, and suspension systems. Threads allow you to precisely adjust the alignment or tension of these components.
