Ball bearing specification chart
How do you identify a ball bearing?
The first number or letter or combination of letters identifies the bearing type and ultimately the basic variant. The next two digits identify the ISO size series. The first digit indicates the width or height series (dimensions B, T, or H). The second digit identifies the diameter series (dimension D).
How do you calculate ball bearing size?
Ball bearing measurements, bearing sizes, and bearing codes
For cylindrical ball bearings, measure the width or thickness of the bearing. Place the bearing on a flat, clean surface and align the jaws or anvil of the measuring tool to opposite sides of the bearing. Read and record the measurements displayed on the caliper or micrometer.
How are ball bearings specified?
The size of a ball bearing is determined by the dimensions of its outer geometry, which includes the diameter of the bearing bore (d), outer diameter (D), nominal width (B), height of the bearing (T), and edge reduction (r). Each bearing has an inner diameter (d), outer diameter (D), and width diameter (B/T).
Here’s a chart outlining typical specifications for ball bearings:

6800 Series (Thin Section)
Model | Bore Diameter (d) | Outer Diameter (D) | Width (B) | Dynamic Load Rating (C) | Max Speed (Grease) |
6800 | 10 mm | 19 mm | 5 mm | 2.3 kN | 35,000 RPM |
6801 | 12 mm | 21 mm | 5 mm | 2.5 kN | 32,000 RPM |
6802 | 15 mm | 24 mm | 5 mm | 3.0 kN | 30,000 RPM |
6803 | 17 mm | 26 mm | 5 mm | 3.2 kN | 29,000 RPM |
In addition to these specifications, it’s essential to consider factors such as material composition, cage design, and mounting arrangement when selecting the right ball bearing for a specific application. These details ensure optimal performance, longevity, and reliability of the bearing in its intended operating environment.
