Components of Sprocket
Each sprocket has many different characteristics, including:
Number of Teeth: This is the total number of teeth on the sprocket, which are individually called teeth.
Pitch Diameter: This is the circumference of the sprocket at the inside point between the points of the teeth where the chain meets the sprocket.
Outer Diameter: The circumference of the ends of the sprocket teeth.
Pitch: The full measurement of each tooth, usually expressed in inches. This needs to fit the pitch between the pins on the chain.
